Why You'll Love It

Grown in Tarrazú, Costa Rica’s most celebrated coffee region, known for its volcanic soil, high altitude, and consistent cup quality.

Creamy, chocolatey and fruit-toned, offering a well-balanced flavour profile that suits a wide range of brewing methods.

Washed and Strictly Hard Bean (SHB) graded, meaning it’s grown at high altitude for denser beans and greater flavour complexity.

Tasting Notes

Volcán Azul opens with a juicy plum note, balanced by soft milk chocolate and rounded out with hints of caramel. The body is smooth and creamy, giving it a luxurious mouthfeel without being heavy. Its medium roast brings out the coffee’s natural sweetness and allows the chocolate and stone fruit flavours to shine through without overwhelming acidity. The finish is clean and slightly sweet, making it an easy-drinking cup for both casual and experienced coffee drinkers.

Origin & Process

Grown in San Rafael, Tarrazú, one of Costa Rica’s most renowned coffee regions, Volcán Azul benefits from high altitude, volcanic soil, and ideal climate. This is a Strictly Hard Bean (SHB) coffee, meaning it’s grown above 1,200m for denser beans and greater flavour. It’s fully washed, producing a clean, vibrant cup with enhanced clarity and balance.

Roast Profile & Use

Roasting Profile:

Roasted to a medium level (3.5/5), this profile balances body, sweetness, and brightness. It highlights the chocolate and plum notes while maintaining a smooth, clean finish.

Recommended Use:

A true all-rounder — perfect for filter, espresso, or French press. Delivers clarity as a black coffee and richness in milk-based drinks.

Brew Guide

Get the best from Volcán Azul with these easy brewing tips for filter, espresso, and French press.

Espresso: For espresso, use an 18g dose and extract 36g of liquid in about 28 to 32 seconds. This will produce a chocolatey shot with subtle plum sweetness.

Filter: For filter brewing (like V60 or Chemex), we recommend using 18g of coffee to 300g of water at 94°C. Brew for around 2 minutes and 30 seconds to 3 minutes for a clean, bright, and balanced cup.

French Press: For French press, use 18g of coffee with 300g of water at 95°C. Let it steep for 4 minutes before plunging. This method enhances the coffee’s creamy body and deeper chocolate tones.
